Task I
A. Describe a routine
I always have
breakfast with my family every morning. I usually have breakfast at 06.00 a.m.
All of my households assemble in to the living room to have breakfast together.
We also have a talk about our activity, schedule, etc while having breakfast.
But on Thursday,
two weeks ago, I did not have breakfast at my home because I overslept and had
schedule on Writing 3 class at 07.00 a.m. So I only had time less than 30
minutes to go to my campus and did not have time to breakfast. And the time to
go to the campus is more than 30 minutes. It made me to ride my motorcycle
fast. But finally I was not late because the lecturer was late.
B. An article about “Protest“
Thousands
Protest Bush Policy
By Michael Ruane and Fredrick Kunkle
Washington Post Staff Writers
Sunday, January 28, 2007
Sunday, January 28, 2007
A raucous and colorful multitude of protesters, led by some of the
aging activists of the past, staged a series of rallies and a march on the
Capitol yesterday to demand that the United
States end its war in Iraq.
Under a blue sky with a pale midday moon, tens of thousands of
people angry about the war and other policies of the Bush administration
danced, sang, shouted and chanted their opposition. They came from across the
country and across the activist spectrum, with a wide array of grievances. Many
seemed to be under 30, but there were others who said they had been at the
famed war protests of the 1960s and '70s.
They came to Washington at what they said was a moment of
opportunity to push the new Congress to take action against the war, even as
the Bush administration is accelerating plans to send an additional 21,500
troops to Iraq. This week, the Senate will begin debating a resolution of
disapproval of the president's Iraq
policy, setting up a dramatic confrontation with the White House.
Some protesters plan to stay and lobby their representatives in
Congress. Other antiwar activists intend to barnstorm states this week urging
senators to oppose the troop escalation.
Yesterday's crowd was large and vociferous, but its size was unclear
because there was no official crowd estimate. It was filled with longtime
opponents of the conflict and of the administration.
"Its primary value is that it keeps up the pressure," said
former Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle of South Dakota. "There is a sense that by
summer, a march like this will be two or three times as large."
The demonstrators were garbed in many colors and T-shirts and
buttons of many sentiments. "Think," read one shirt. "It's not
illegal yet." A button read: "Kill your lawn." Read another:
"Trees Hate You."
But the overriding complaint was the U.S.
prosecution of the war in Iraq.
"Peace is controversial," civil rights and community
activist Jesse Jackson, 65, said in a rousing address to the crowd gathered at
the east end of the Mall. "But so is war. The fruit of peace is so much
sweeter."
Some came for relatives in the service. A New
York woman came on behalf of her younger brother, who she said was
about to be deployed to Iraq.
She had a framed picture of him in a knapsack. An Akron,
Ohio, woman came with her infant son, saying
his father, in the Navy in Kuwait,
had yet to see him.
Oriana Futrell, 21, of Spokane,
Wash., came with a sign that
said: "Bring my husband home now." She said her husband, Dan, an Army
lieutenant, was in Baghdad.
They were married in April. She said she was weary of attending military
funerals.

Fires
There are about 24 million fires every year in the United States. These fires cause
over $ 11 billion in damage. Unfortunately, about 6,000 people die every year
in fires. Many of these are senior citizens or children who cannot move quickly
or do not know what to do. In addition, 100,000 people are injured in fires
annually. We cannot stop all fires. However, careful planning reduces the
number of fires and increases the chances of people surviving fires.
These days, prevention is an important part of fire safety. Many
fire departments have a fire safety officer who goes to schools and communities
and talks to people about fire safety. Some fire stations hand out free smoke
alarm, and some cities have even built model homes where children can practice
getting out of smoke-filled buildings. Schools are required to practice fire
drills, and commercial buildings, like stores and offices, must meet safety
standards. Because of this emphasis on prevention, the number of fires has
decreased. By continuing to follow simple rules and practicing their escape
plans, people can continue to reduce the number of fires.

Floods
At least 35 persons were killed and
12 others missing in floods and mud flows that came following heavy rains in
East Java province, Indonesia, on Tuesday, 15 November 2009. On Monday night,
at least 18 persons were killed in the flooding caused by heavy rains, which
also swamped hundreds of houses in Situbondo, about 210 kilometers east of the
provincial capital of Surabaya.
In Bondowoso, 50 kilometers south of Situbondo, 17 persons died in the floods.
The floods and mud flows cut the road connecting Situbondo and Bondowoso. Flooding also damaged the Kali Sampean embankment, submerging roads leading to the resort island of Bali at a depth of more than one meter.
It was reported that flooding also hit at least five villages in the neighboring town of Jember, where the water level reached a height of one to two meters after the Rambipuji river burst its banks. Java Island is currently entering its rainy season. The Meteorology Agency has forecast more rain until the end of the wet season in February.

more, I opened the door and entered in. When I saw the lecturer I said in my
heart, “ He is not my lecturer ”. And then I saw to the students, “ Oh my God,
they are not my friends “. All of the people in there looked at me and I
realized that I entered to the wrong laboratory. I was ashamed. All of the

Cigarette Sellers Rally Against Smoking
Bans
The Jakarta Post,
Jakarta | Wed, 05/04/2011 4:05 PM
Cigarette sellers demonstrated outside the Health Ministry office in
Jakarta on
Wednesday, demanding regulations on no smoking areas annulled. "The law
torments cigarette sellers," said rally coordinator A. Zulfan Kurniawan,
who is also the coordinator of the Jakarta
cigarette community. The regulations in question are a governor’s regulation
and a joint regulation was signed by the Health Ministry and the Home
Ministry. Zulfan said the regulations were in breach of basic human rights
principles, as well as those of justice and equality.
"Smokers are not allowed to consume legal goods that contribute
to the country," he said.
The protest was joined by around 200 cigarette sellers, who wore head bands and carried flags and banners.
Zulfan said the protest had not demanded an immediate dialogue with
the health minister.
"Yes, we do want to
talk with the minister, but not now. We want to have a dialogue with the
regional representative council (DPRD) first," he said. (awd)

The Eiffel Tower
The
story of the Eiffel
Tower started in June
1884 when the plan was conceived by Gustave Eiffel to build a huge iron tower
for the World's Fair of 1889. The construction began in 1887 and took a little
more than 2 years. Despite the "Protest against the Tower of Monsieur
Eiffel” published in a newspaper and signed by several big names - including
Charles Gounod, Guy de Maupassant, Alexandre Dumas junior and Sully Prudhomme -
success was immediate and just a few days after it was completed it became the
most famous landmark of the city receiving the visit of 2 millions people the
first year.
Eiffel was the leading European authority on
the aerodynamics of high frames (he wrote "The Resistance of the Air"
in 1913). In the construction of the Eiffel
Tower, the curve of the
base pylons was precisely calculated so that the bending and shearing forces of
the wind were progressively transformed into forces of compression, which the
bents could withstand more effectively. Such was Eiffel's engineering wizardry
that even in the strongest winds his tower never sways more than 4-1/2 inches.
The super sky scrapers erected since 1960, such as the World Trade
Center, were constructed
in much the same way.
Facilities
in every part of the Eiffel
Tower :
First level: 57.63 meters (189 feet). Observatory from which to study the movements
of the Eiffel Tower's summit. Kiosk presentation about
the mythic painting of the Eiffel
Tower. Space CINEIFFEL:
offers an exceptional panorama of sights from the Tower. Souvenir shops. Restaurant
"Altitude 95" (phone 01-45-55-20-04). Post office, with special
stamps "Paris
Eiffel Tower
". Panoramic gallery displaying the Monuments of Paris.
Second level: 115.73 meters (379 feet, 8 inches). Panorama of Paris. Telescopes, shops. Animated displays
on the operation of the elevators. Jules Verne Restaurant (extremely expensive,
reservations absolutely necessary; phone 01-45-55-61-44).
Third level: 276.13 meters (905 feet, 11 inches). Exceptional panoramic views,
day or night, of Paris
and its surroundings. Recently restored office, featuring wax reproductions of
Gustave Eiffel and Thomas Edison in conversation (see photo). Panoramic guide displays
to aid orientation. Dioramas presenting the history of this platform.
Probably
the best approach to the tower is to take the Métro to the Trocadéro station
and walk from the Palais de Chaillot to the Seine.
Besides fabulous views, especially when the Trocadéro fountains are in full
force, you get a free show from the dancers and acrobats who perform around the
Palais de Chaillot. The vast green esplanade beneath the tower is the Parc du
Champs-de-Mars, which extends all the way to the 18th-century École Militaire (Military Academy), at its southeast end. This
formal lawn was once a parade ground for French troops.
The Eiffel Tower
at night is one of the great sights of Paris
and shouldn't be missed. The gold lighting highlights the delicacy of the
steelwork in a way that is missed in daylight. Skip the tour buses and
pickpockets on Trocadéro and head up to the École Militaire for a more tranquil
view.
However
difficult its birth may have been, the Tour Eiffel is now completely accepted
by French citizens, and is internationally recognized as one of the symbols of Paris itself.
